Waldorf Track and Field End April with Busy Week

The Waldorf men's and women's track and field teams had a very busy week, with Warrior athletes competing across four different meets in four locations across four days. 

The four day period between Wednesday, April 22nd and Saturday, April 25th saw competition at the Gary Wilson Invitational (Hosted at the University of Minnesota), the Kip Janvrin Open (Hosted at Simpson College), as well as The Grand View Viking Classic and the Drake Relays both hosted in Des Moines. 

Across the multiple days, both programs saw multiple personal bests, and many new top 10 all time marks. The men's team saw Cooper Yao set the new second best mark in Warrior history, throwing 14.46 meters in the shot put, Molina Estaban jump the third best triple jump with 12.83 meters, and Tristian Chaplan throw throw the 4th best shot put ever by a Warrior with his 13.51 meter throw. The two men's relay teams that competed at the Drake Relays both set the new second best times, with the sprint medley team (Xzayvier Horton, Cole Armstrong, Jordan Jones, Christian Hernandez) running a 3:36.44, and the 4x200 relay team (Horton, Armstrong, Jones, and Dominique Brunelson) running a 1:31.95.

The women's program saw 3 new school records set, with 2 other new top 10 marks. Eliza McKown started her week by placing 15th in the 800m run on thursday at the Drake Relays, her time of 2:14.93 and was the second fasted of any NAIA athlete competing. She then followed that performance by running 2:13.04 in the 800m the next day, that time set a new Waldorf school record, and qualified McKown to compete at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will take place May 20th-22nd in Asheville, North Carolina. Madison Mulhall set two new school records of her own, first in the 100m hurdles, running a time of 15.10 seconds. She then set a second school record in the 400m hurdles, running a time of 1:06.67. Marissa O'Connor also ran in the 800m, with her time of 2:27.87 placing her 3rd all time on the Waldorf record sheet. Alexa Torres 27.24 second time in the 200 placed her 7th all time. 

The Men's and Women's programs both now look forward to May 1st and 2nd when they travel to Fremont Nebraska for the GPAC Championships.
