Eliza McKown Claims School Record at Mount Marty Invitational

Yankton, SD - The Warriors traveled to the Mount Marty Invitational and Multis this past weekend. The Warriors had a very successful weekend with 19 personal records broken, 8 top ten finishers, and 6 top ten all time in school history performances. 

On the Women's side of things, our 60 meters best time was 8.43 posted by freshman Erica Palisoc. The best 200 meters time was also posted by Palisoc with a time of 29.12. These times put her in 16th and 34th place respectively. Alexa Torres posted a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 1.10.56 and a 10th place finish. Senior Gemma Jasso posted a 600 meters time of 2.09.04 and ended with an 11th place finish. 

The Warriors had a great showing in the 1,000 meters. Junior Eliza McKown posted a personal best of 3.07.12 and finished 3rd place at the meet. This time puts her as Waldorf's current school record holder.  In the 5,000 meters Danielle Wood claimed a 7th place finish with a time of 21.08.04. 

On the field side of things, both Justice Battle and Faith Haughwout recorded personal bests with distances of 10.41 meters and 10.27 meters respectively. This put Battle at 4th All-Time and Haughwout at 7th All-Time. In the weight throw Eve Seedorff recorded a personal best of 11.74 meters and claimed Waldorf's 4th place All-Time. The Warriors ended the meet with the 4x400 meters relay. Peck, O'Connor, Torres, and McKown had a finishing time of 4.34.61. 

For the men, In the 60 meters, Rocky Ketchum, Marquis Simpson, Michael Williams, and Blayson Dolney all posted personal bests with times of 7.55, 7.70, 7.85, and 8.11 respectively. Sophomore Robay Birri was the star for the Warriors posting a time of 7.38 finishing 23rd in the preliminary round. The 200 meters allowed for 5 personal bests recorded by Brunelson Dominique, Robay Birri, Sunel Fernandez, Rocky Ketchum, and Michael Williams with times of 24.13, 24.28, 24.38, 24.96, and 26.26 respectively. Sophomore Robert Beal posted a flashy time of 23.94 claiming 24th place in the event. 

In the 400 meters Dolney placed another personal best of 58.20 and placed 24th with Michael Williams right behind him with a time of 59.80. In the 600 meters Brunelson Dominique placed 10th with a finishing time of 1.39.73. The 60 meters hurdles was a highlight for the Warriors as junior Jeaceajay Jappah placed 3rd with a time of 8.68 in the finals. This time was a personal best and put him at 4th All-Time in Waldorf history. 

On the field side of things, Jappah showed out again in the high jump and long jump with a personal best of 1.88 meters and 6.30 meters respectively. This high jump put him in third place at the meet and third all time at Waldorf. His long jump distance won him 6th place at the meet and 7th place all time. Sophomore Marquis Simpson placed 19th in the long jump with a jump of 5.42 meters. Freshman Adrian Soto shined in the shot put with a personal best of 11.54 meters and a 14th place finish. The Warriors finished the day with the 4x400 meter relay where Beal, Fernandez, Dolney, and Dominique finished with a time of 3.41.84 placing 9th. 

"I am happy with how our athletes performed. We had some pretty big performances. A few athletes stepped outside of their comfort zone and raced in new events or more than they are used to. This is an exciting time for our team, especially with it being so young."Head Coach Janna Langrell said.

The Warriors will be back in action this coming Saturday January 25th at the Dennis Young Indoor Classic in Storm Lake, IA.
