Esports Warriors Battle in GPAC Championship
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Waldorf SSBU went to Morningside University this past weekend to compete in the GPAC Esports Championship. On day 1 of the tournament Waldorf went up against Hasting College for game 1. Waldorf beat Hastings 2-0 in dominating fashion. Excited following the victory, our Warriors knew that they needed to stay locked in for the upcoming matches. Later in the day Waldorf beat Doane 2-0. In a closer match our warriors stayed strong and still remained undefeated on the day. For the Final match of the day Waldorf SSBU played against Northwestern College. Waldorf started off the series with a great showing and won the first match against NWC. NWC ended up winning the second match bringing the series to 1-1. In a back to back battle Waldorf SSBU came up short losing 2-1. Ending day 1 with a record of 2-1.
Day 2 started off with Waldorf SSBU against Doane again but this time in the semifinals match. Waldorf produced the same result as day 1 and beat Doane 2-0. Waldorf came ready to bring the heat on day 2 and were performing at a top level. In the Championship match against Northwestern College, Waldorf knew that they had to start off strong and show NWC that they were ready to get revenge for the first day of the tournament. Our Warriors won game 1 but the championship match is a best of 5. Waldorf lost the next 2 games and are now needing to focus back up for game 4. After a great performance by all the players on the team Waldorf SSBU lost game 4 and lost the series 3-1. Their Coach said this following the championship loss "While we would have loved to win it all, 2nd place is a great showing for the first ever GPAC Esports Championship for Smash Ultimate. We will work hard and make sure to bring home the trophy next year."
