Men’s Golf climbs five spots to finish in tie for second
ASBURY, Iowa – Waldorf's Carlos Filipczak was low man for the Warriors who climbed into a tie for second during the second and final round at the Loras Spring Invitational. Filipczak shot 76-76 (+8) to finish tied for seventh in the field of 74 players.
Day one kicked off at noon with cloudy and windy conditions as players began the first round at The Meadows Golf Club's par-72, 6,675-yard layout. Play was suspended shortly after 2 p.m. for lightning, and the delay carried on until play resumed at 3:45 p.m. Rain continued for the remainder of the round, creating temporary accumulations of water throughout the course.
Following the delay, play was highlighted by Christian Prambs and Carlos Filiczak, who each carded only three bogeys in the challenging conditions. Prambs collected eight consecutive pars on his way to a first-round 79. Waldorf finished the first day in seventh place as a team with a 33-over-par 321.
On day two, the Warriors took advantage of much-improved weather conditions to shoot 300 (+12), their best score of the spring. Leading the charge was junior Luke Fenner, who carded a one-under 71 to rise 35 places to finish in 30th place in the individual rankings.
Jacob Wiersma finished 17th, firing rounds of 79-75 (+10).
Christian Prambs finished in a tie for 21st after shooting 79-78 (+13). Matching Prambs in the standings was Gabin Migné, who shot 78-79 (+13) playing as an individual.
"Really nice comeback on day two of the tournament for our team," said head coach Mark Clouse. "Moving up to second place is a nice accomplishment heading into the conference meet."
Winning the team title was fellow NAIA school St. Ambrose with 312-291 (+27). The individual medalist was Vaughn Tyler of Wartburg who shot one-over-par over the two days.
The Waldorf men concluded their regular season at the Loras Spring Invitational and now look forward to the GPAC Championships, which will be played at Dakota Dunes Country Club in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota April 21-22. Both the winning team and individual of the 54-hole event will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship played May 12-15 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
