Olivo-Cabrera qualifies for NAIA nationals
MANKATO, Minn. - Waldorf men's track and field hurdler Jorge Olivo-Cabrera qualified for NAIA nationals after his performance Wednesday at the Maverick Open #1 in Mankato, Minnesota.
The NAIA 'B' standard for the 110-meter hurdles is 14.80 seconds. In the prelims Wednesday, Olivo-Cabrera qualified for the finals in the event with a time of 14.85. That gave him one more chance to trim that time a little further to hit the standard. In the finals, Olivo-Cabrera just got below the standard with a time of 14.79, qualifying him for the NAIA nationals later this month in Marion, Indiana. Olivo-Cabrera finished fourth in the race competing against NCAA Division II and I athletes.
Marcel Smith also competed in the meet in the high jump. He tied for third overall with a height of 1.85 meters.
Waldorf men's and women's track and field teams next compete at the NSAA Outdoor Championships May 9-10 at Dakota State.
