Women’s Soccer Battle Against No. 8 Hastings
HASTINGS, NE – The Waldorf women's soccer team was on the road for a conference game against the (8)Hastings College Broncos. In an exciting battle with a lot of adversity, the Warriors fell 1-2.
Hastings started off the game strong by finding opportunities to get shots on goal, but Waldorf goalkeeper, Samantha Linteo (SR/Napa, CA), had big saves.
At the 32nd minute, the Broncos were able to get by Linteo to score a goal.
Paige Spatorico (FR/North Tonawanda, NY) had a shot on goal but was saved the the Hastings goalie to end the first half.
In the second half, both teams battled to try to score.
Maria Gonzalez (SR/Turlock, CA) tied the game, assisted by Spatorcio, with a goal at the 79th minute.
The Broncos scored off of a corner kick to win 1-2.
Linteo finished the game with 11 saves.
"It was a great game, but we almost pulled off the massive upset," said head coach Thomas Goodman. "I was incredibly proud of the teams playing through adversity and playing to the last minute."
The women's soccer will be back on their home turf on Tuesday, September 26th against the College of Saint Mary (NE) at 6:30 pm.
