Hendricks Claims Heart of America Women’s Wrestling Title
OSKALOOSA, IA – The senior Warrior could not finish out her career any better. Waldorf University's Joanna Hendricks claimed the 191-pound Heart of American Athletic Conference Women's Wrestling title in style by a fall.
Hendricks quickly took her opening foe, Shianne of Whited of Central Methodist, down for the 49-second fall. The Warrior redshirt senior outlasted Grand View's Olivia Brown by a 1-0 decision before she recorded her second pin in the title match with 16 seconds left in the first period (2:44) of Jannell Avila of Baker.
For her performance in capturing the title, Hendricks (26-1) earned her award as the Co-Tournameht Outstanding Wrestlers along with both Abby McIntyre of Grand View and Adaugo Nwachukwu from William Penn.
In the team standings, Waldorf garnered sixth with 75.0 points of the eight-team HAAC field. Grand View won the top spot for the fourth year in a row with 185.0 points with William Penn in second (171.5).
Along with Hendricks title, the Warriors also had three Third Place finishers and a Fourth Place winner.
In the lightest weight class of 101, Alanis Serrano-Sois recorded a fall in 2:59 of the second period over Jessica Romo of Dickinson State. At 130-pound weight class, Jennifer Castaneda registered an 8-4 decision over Madeline Santana of Missouri Valley. In the other Third Place match, Waldorf teammates faced off with Niah Smith taking away a 5-4 decision over Kuuipo Chan.
