Waldorf WWR at York Open 2026
YORK, Neb.- Waldorf University women's wrestling made its presence felt at the York Open on Saturday with a series of gritty individual performances highlighted by a runner-up finish from Rosa Ramirez and multiple top-five showings across the lineup.
Ramirez led the way for the Warriors, battling through the front side of the bracket to claim second place. She opened her day with authority, earning a pin in her first match to build early momentum. In the next round, she followed with a decision victory, staying in control and advancing deeper into the championship side. Her semifinal was the defining moment of her tournament, as she dug in for a hard-fought, one-point win that showcased her composure in tight situations and punched her ticket to the finals.
In the championship match, Ramirez came up just short and settled for second, but her overall performance set the tone for Waldorf. Wrestling through several pressure-filled bouts, she showed the kind of resilience and consistency that coaches look for in postseason-ready competitors. Her run to the finals also provided a clear example of the progress the team is making against strong regional competition.
Skyler Bruno added another strong result for Waldorf by finishing fourth. Bruno opened her day with a win by fall, getting the job done early and giving the Warriors another boost in the early rounds. After moving to the backside of the bracket, she regrouped and battled her way to a decision victory that carried her into the consolation finals.
Waldorf also picked up a pair of fifth-place finishes from Edyn Hartman and Lila, adding important depth to the team's overall showing. Hartman went 1-2 on the day, fighting through a competitive bracket to secure her top-five finish. Lila, meanwhile, put together one of the more explosive performances of the tournament for the Warriors. She finished 2-2 with both victories coming by technical fall, ending her wins early and showing she can separate quickly on the scoreboard when she finds her rhythm.
Taken together, those results gave Waldorf several wrestlers on the podium and multiple athletes competing deep into the placing rounds. The mix of pins, tech falls and narrow decision wins showed the team can succeed in different styles of matches, whether it's closing things out early or grinding through full-length battles.
