Men's Basketball - Warriors Fall Short to Bruins
The Waldorf men's basketball team was back in action for an away conference matchup against Bellevue. The Warriors had less than ten turnovers but fell 48-59.
Justin Wiggins (SO/West Palm Beach, FL) and Tyree'on Johnson (SR/Coon Rapids, MN) scored back-to-back to start the game. The Bruins tied at 4-4 and go up 4-8.
Khyle Washington (JR/Atlanta, GA) scores six points and Johnson added two to tie the game back at 12-12 with nine minutes remaining in the half. The Bruins go up 12-17 before Wiggins and Khalil Grayson (SO/Milwaukee, WI) each score.
Johnson comes up big with a dunk to tie it at 20-20. Washington scored the last three points for the Warriors in the first half and were down 23-29.
The Bruins started the second half by going on a 17-2 run against the Warriors. Washington made the first field goal at the 12-minute mark.
Fredery Cuello (JR/New York, NY) and Noah Gwinn (SO/Liberty, SC) scored back-to-back to make the score 33-50. Gwinn added seven more points and Cuello sunk a three, but the Bruins were able to keep the lead and win 48-59.
"Really poor 2nd half from an energy standpoint. We came out flat and Bellevue made us pay for it," stated Head Coach Nigel Jenkins. "Our first half was bad. Had some missed opportunities but we were solid defensively. Our road woes continued this weekend. Back to work on Monday to get ready for two home games."
Washington finished with 13 points, Gwinn had nine points, and Johnson added eight points and five rebounds.
Next up for the men's basketball team is a home conference weekend starting with Valley City State on Friday, Feb. 3rd. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
