Dordt University fast start leads to victory over Waldorf University 110-54
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - In an overwhelming display of offensive power, Dordt University defeated Waldorf University 110-54 on Wednesday night, cruising to a decisive victory behind a standout performance from Lucas Lorenzen. The Defenders, receiving votes among the top teams in the NAIA, showcased their depth and scoring ability as they overwhelmed the Warriors in every phase of the game.
Lorenzen, the senior guard, was the driving force for Dordt, finishing with 27 points on an efficient 10-of-14 shooting. His ability to score in a variety of ways, from long-range shooting to drives to the basket, kept the Waldorf defense on its heels all night. Fellow starter Jake Hargens also contributed heavily, adding 15 points to the Dordt total.
While Dordt's offensive explosion stole the show, Waldorf had moments of bright play, with Cartier Parr and McNeal Thompson IV leading the Warriors off the bench, but it wasn't enough to stem the tide against the high-powered Defenders.
Dordt established dominance early, opening a sizable lead in the first half with an array of fast breaks and precise shooting. By halftime, the Defenders were already in control, holding a commanding 58-25 lead. Waldorf, struggling to contain Dordt's relentless offensive attack, was unable to find a rhythm.
For Waldorf, the loss was a tough one. "Tonight we didn't come ready to play. Dordt has a good team. We will bounce back and get better," said head coach Demitrius Martin after the game.
Waldorf will be back in action versus their upcoming opponent Mount Marty University on Saturday, November 23rd at 3:45pm in the Hanson Fieldhouse.
