Men's Basketball Travel for Exhibition Against Minnesota State-Mankato
MANKATO, MN – The Waldorf men's basketball team returned to the court for an exhibition game against the University of Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks, NCAA Division II and ranked 12th in the nation. The Warriors were defeated 113-55.
"Minnesota State is a really good team. They are ranked #12 for a reason," stated Head Coach Nigel Jenkins. "Played teams like that and in an arena like that is a great experience for our guys. There were a couple stretches where we showed some flashes, but not nearly enough."
The Mavericks started the game with a 10-0 run against the Warriors. Kaelon Harkema (JR/Louisville, KY) stopped the run with a layup. Justin Wiggins (JR/West Palm Beach, FL) and Khalil Grayson (JR/Milwaukee, WI) each made a three to give Waldorf 11 points.
The Warriors brought the game within 8 points from another three by Grayson and four points from Khyle Washington (SR/Atlanta, GA). The Mavericks extended their lead at half by being up 56-33.
In the second half, the Mavericks scored 15 straight points. Washington added two made free throws with Noah Miller (JR/Forest City, IA) making a three after. The Mavericks won, 113-55.
Jenkins added, "I'm looking forward to seeing how we respond tomorrow against a tough McPherson team."
Washington finished with 12 points. Harkema added 9 points and 2 assists, Grayson tallied 7 points, and Gabriel Sorensen had 6 rebounds.
Next up, the Warriors will host McPherson College tomorrow, November 25th at Hanson Fieldhouse. Tipoff is at 3 pm.
