FOREST CITY, Iowa - With a poor weather forecast for the weekend, the Waldorf softball team moved up their NSAA-opening home series with Valley City State to Tuesday. The Vikings proved to be too much and swept the tripleheader (28-2, 16-1, 18-1) at Al Buckley Field.
Waldorf plated two runs in the opening game. Gabby Bierly started the home half of the first with a single to right and advanced to second on an error. She would come around to score on another VCSU error. Waldorf scored again in the third. Kierra Schulz and Kyleigh Morris each singled to start the frame. A pair of wild pitches allowed Waldorf to score their second run. Morris had a pair of hits in the opener.
In the second game, Waldorf scored their run in the third inning. Madison Clark led off with a single to right and would advance to second on a wild pitch. Jenna Busch followed with a double to center to score Clark. Maddie Dalke held the powerful Vikings offense in check by pitching 3.1 solid innings, allowing only two runs on three hits.
Bierly and Brooky Hickey collected hits in the final game of the day.
Waldorf (1-13, 0-3 in NSAA) is next scheduled to play Mayville State March 29-30.
