Softball Drops Both Games to Concordia
FOREST CITY, IA - The Warriors drop two high scoring games against Concordia at home on April 17th. They lost game one with a score of 20-5 and lost game two 13-9.
In game one, the Warriors took an early 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second with a grandslam from freshman Avery Mauldin. It started with a Hailey Michalik walk, followed by a Dionne Lopez walk, and a Sophia Asimakopoulos single, then the first career bomb from Mauldin to take the lead.
The Warriors would only score one more run in the game which also came from a Mauldin solo shot to left field. This would be her second career home run.
Reagan Ridout took the loss in the circle throwing 5.0 innings. She gave up 8 earned runs on 13 hits, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout.
Game two was quite the battle, until the Bulldogs ran away with the lead in the top of the seventh.
The Warriors scored 3 runs through the third inning and eventually took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of fourth inning. Dionne Lopez reached on error, Kylie Bates singled to left field, followed by an Avery Mauldin single to right field, Hailey Michalik walked, and Kenady Ridout singled through the left side.
They scored one more in the bottom of the fifth. Savannah Lyford singled to right field, followed by a Lopez walk, and a Mauldin single to score the run. Waldorf scored two more in the bottom of the sixth, but it would not be enough to overcome the deficit. Kenady Ridout reached on error, followed by an Asimakopoulos reach on error, a Jaycee Plath single to right center field, and a Lyford walk to score two more runs.
Makenzie Cope took the loss in the circle. She gave up 12 earned runs on 17 hits, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout.
The Warriors play again on Sunday April 19th against The College of Saint Mary.
