CRETE, NEBRASKA - Waldorf softball went 1-3 this past weekend. They lost both to conference opponent Doane, and split with Hastings. The scores against Doane were 9-1 and 8-0 with Doane taking both wins.
Waldorf only achieved two hits in the first against Doane. Junior Hailey Michalik singled to right field where she would then advance on a throwing error. Junior Ryann Eurich also singled to right center for the second hit of the game. Reagan Ridout would take the loss in the cirlce after throwing 3 innings. She gave up 7 earned runs on 9 hits, 2 walks, and 5 errors.
Game two was just as unsuccessful only tallying 6 total baserunners. Gabby Bierly went 1 for 3 with a single to center field. Jenna Busch went 2 for 2 with two base knocks up the middle. Dionne Lopez went 1 for 2 with a single to right side. Freshman Mariah Bledsoe and Kenady Ridout each singled to the right side.
Makenzie Cope would take the loss in the circle giving up 6 earned runs on 11 hits and 3 walks.
Day two of the road trip was more successful for the Warriors. They took a huge 13-4 win over the Hastings Broncos in game one. The Warriors scored 13 runs on 15 hits and 4 walks. The scoring would start for the Warriors in the top of the fourth inning after taking an early 3-0 deficit. Jenna Busch would start the rally with a base hit up the middle. Hailey Michalik reached on a dropped attempt at a fielder's choice. Kenady Ridout singled through the left side to load the bases. Mariah Bledsoe drove in the first run with a line drive to left field to cut the deficit to two. Dionne Lopez singled to center field to bring in another run. Avery Mauldin doubled to right center field to continue the 1 out rally. R. Ridout singled to left field, and Kylie Bates walked. Gabby Bierly who started the inning with an out would take her second at bat of the inning and single to left field. Jenna Busch would reach on a fielder's choice and bring in another run. Lastly, Michalik would triple down the right field line to bring in two more. After the top of the fourth inning, Waldorf took the lead with a score of 9-3.
The scoring would continue into the top of the 5th inning. Lopez singled to right field. Mauldin hit her second double of the game down the right field line. R. Ridout singled through the left side again to bring in another run. Bates would walk and Bierly reached on fielder's choice bringing in the second run of the inning. This would bring the lead to 11-3 putting the run rule in effect.
The Broncos got one of their own in the bottom of the 5th to keep the game alive on a solo shot from A. Medeiros.
The sixth inning was scoreless for both teams and the Warriors would tack on 2 more in their frame of the seventh. R. Ridout reached on error to start the inning, Bates singled to left field, Bierly hit an RBI single to left field, and Jenna Busch grounded out to bring in another run. This would bring the final score to 13-4. The Broncos went scoreless in the bottom of the 7th to win the game.
Reagan Ridout got her second win in the circle. She threw a complete game giving up 4 earned runs on 6 hits and 4 walks.
Game two was unfortunatley less exciting for the Waldorf dugout. The Broncos took game two with a score of 11-0.
R. Ridout went 1-3 with an infield hit. Bierly went 1-3 with a single to left field. Hailey Michalik went 1-2 with a single to center field. Sophia Asimakopoulos reached on an infield single, and Mauldin went 1-2 with a basehit to left field.
Jaycee Plath took the loss in the circle throwing 2.1 innings. She gave up 9 runs, 0 of them earned on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 4 errors.
The Warriors will be back in action Wednesday, April 1st at Viterbo for a doubleheader at 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
