Waldorf Softball finishes their Regular Season at Northwestern
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Waldorf Softball ended their season with a doubleheader at Northwestern College, falling 10-2 and 11-4.
In game 1, Northwestern scored once in the first, then added three runs in the second. The Red Raiders added four more runs in the third. Several of those runs were unearned as Waldorf committed five errors in the game, a number that proved costly against a lineup that finished with 10 hits and four stolen bases. Waldorf answered in the third when Kenady Ridout singled up the middle to bring home the Warriors' first run, trimming the deficit to 8-1. The Warriors added another run in the fifth when Avery Mauldin scored on an error. Waldorf finished with five hits and left six runners on base but could not string together enough offense to erase Northwestern's early cushion.
In game 2, Waldorf carried a three-run lead into the middle innings Saturday, but Northwestern turned the game with a five-run fourth and pulled away for an 11-4 win. The Warriors built their best stretch in the top of the second. Maili Jackson brought home Sophia Asimakopoulos with a sacrifice fly, Avery Mauldin followed with an RBI single, and Gabby Bierly added another run-scoring single as Waldorf moved in front 3-0. Northwestern answered with a run in the bottom of that inning but Waldorf pushed the margin back to three at 4-1 with another run in the fourth. That advantage disappeared quickly in the bottom half. Northwestern sent five runs across to take a 6-4 lead. Northwestern added the decisive separation in the fifth, scoring five more times to extend the lead to 11-4. Waldorf stayed competitive at the plate, collecting 11 hits and committing no errors. Mauldin paced the Warriors by going 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Jackson reached twice in two official at-bats, drove in a run with the sacrifice fly, and added a stolen base. The Warriors also drew three walks but left nine runners on base and could not answer after Northwestern's back-to-back big innings.
