YANKTON, SD - Waldorf softball loses four games on the road at Briar Cliff and Mount Marty this past weekend. They lost to Briar Cliff 8-2 in game one and 5-4 in game two. Against Mount Marty, they lost game one with a score of 9-1 and game two with a score of 11-6.
Briar Cliff Game One:
Game one agasint Briar Cliff was rather uneventful. The Warriors scored two runs on just 4 hits throughout seven innings played. Gabby Bierly went 1 for 3 with a single. Jenna Busch went 1 for 3 with a base hit. Dionne Lopez went 1 for 2 with a single, and Isabella Bencivenga went 1 for 2 with a two RBI double.
Reagan Ridout and Jaycee Plath each threw 3 innings a piece. Ridout gave up 5 runs on on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout. Plath gave up just 3 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout.
Briar Cliff Game Two:
Game two was a lot more exciting than the prior. Each team was held scoreless through the first 3 innings. Waldorf took a 3 run lead in the top of the 4th. Lopez walked, followed by a Sophia Asimakopoulos double down the left field line. Avery Mauldin singled to left field, and Maili Jackson walked. Briar Cliff would get one back of their own in the bottom of the 4th.
The Warriors went scoreless in the 5th and 6th innings, despite Briar Cliff scoring one in each inning. At the bottom of the 6th, the game was tied at 3. In the top of the seventh, Reagan Ridout singled to left field to get things going. She stole second, and scored on a single to left field from Gabby Bierly to take the lead 4-3.
Briarcliff would eventually tie and walk it off in the bottom of the seventh to leave the game at 5-4.
Makenzie Cope took the loss in the cirlce. She threw 6.2 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
On Saturday, the Warriors played a doubleheader at Mount Marty
Mount Marty Game One:
Game one against Mount Marty ended in a 9-1 score in 5 innings.
The Warriors scored 1 run on 5 hits. R. Ridout went 1 for 3. Bencivenga went 1 for 2. Busch went 1 for 1 with a walk. Lopez went 1 for 2. Hailey Michalik went 1 for 2 with a double.
Ridout took the loss in the circle. She threw 4.0 innings and gave up 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 1 walk.
Mount Marty Game Two:
Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings of play. In the top of the third, the Warriors put up a 5 spot on Mount Marty. R. Ridout singled to center field to start the inning. Bencivenga walked, followed by a Bierly single to left field. Busch then doubled to left center, and Kenady Ridout hit her first collegiate homerun to dead center. She would drive in 3. This put the Warriors up 5-0. The lead would quickly dwindle, as Mount Marty scored 4 of thier own in the bottom half of the third. They would score one more in the bottom of the fourth to tie it at 5.
Waldorf would take the lead again in the top of the fifth. Asimakopoulos singled, followed by a Michalik walk, and a R. Ridout single to drive in the go ahead run. That would be the last run the Warriors would score and Mount Marty would put up 6 more throughout the last two innings.
Makenzie Cope took the loss in the circle. She gave up 8 earned runs on 11 hits and 4 walks through 5.0 innings.
The Warriors will be back in action next Tuesday for a non-conference match up against Dakota State University.
