Hockey - Warriors Fall to No. 8 University of Jamestown
The Waldorf hockey team returned to their home ice for a conference game against No. 8 University of Jamestown. The Warriors lost 5-1.
"We played a pretty motivated UJ team today. They earn their national ranking. Very gritty and talented program," stated Head Coach Mike Heitkamp.
The Jimmies scored their first goal, unassisted, at the 11-minute mark and scored another goal just a few minutes later.
In the second period, the Jimmies scored three straight goals. Wade Auger (SR/Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan) found the back of the net for the Warriors on a power-play against the Jimmies. Michael Heitkamp (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) and Tyler Nelson (SO/Pleasanton, CA) were credited on the assists.
The third period remained scoreless with the Jimmies having 20 shots on goal compared to the Warriors six. Goaltender Cade Kujawski (SO/Prior Lake, MN) finished the game with 23 saves.
"I felt we had a good third period even without a few key players due to injury. I also felt Cade Kujawksi battled and made some big saves when we needed them," Heitkamp said. "Specifically, we gave up two breakaways on line changes in the second where he stopped them. We need to get healthy this week as we host another conference weekend."
The Warriors are back in action next weekend for a conference weekend series against Northern Illinois University starting on Friday, Feb. 10th. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
