Hockey - Warriors Drop to Midland at Home
The Waldorf hockey team was back in action on their home ice for a conference weekend series against Midland University to close out their regular season. The Warriors fell 6-1.
"Not taking anything away from Midland. They're a good hockey club and played well tonight, but we were nowhere to be found in the first two periods," Head Coach Mike Heitkamp stated. "We were beat to every loose puck and lost almost all stick battles. We are way better than our performance tonight."
Midland started off the game strong by scoring half of their goals in the first period.
In the second period, Midland added two more goals with one goal being scored on a power-play against Waldorf.
Waldorf scored in the third period at the 11-minute mark from Tyler Nelson (SO/Pleasanton, CA), assisted by Wade Auger (SR/Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan) on a power-play against Midland.
Midland closed out the game by scoring their final goal to win 6-1.
Goaltender Cade Kujawski (SO/Prior Lake, MN) finished the game with 42 saves.
"Cade Kujawski played very well in net and in a couple of situations, appeared to be the only guy on the ice for us. It's too bad because this group had the opportunity to finish third in the conference and we didn't show up tonight," Heitkamp said. "We need to be better tomorrow as we finish off the regular season."
The Warriors will honor their seniors tomorrow as they close out their regular season against Midland. Puck drop is at 2 p.m.
