Waldorf D1 Hockey Battles Against Iowa State
AMES, IA – The Waldorf D1 hockey team was back on the road for a game against the Iowa State University Cyclones. In a close game, the Warriors were defeated 2-1.
"These guys battled tonight," stated Head Coach Mike Heitkamp. "Three road games in five nights is tough."
The 1st period remained scoreless as both teams tried to score first. The Warriors were limited to eight shots on goal and the Cyclones had 17.
In the 2nd period, the Cyclones were on the scoreboard first by scoring a goal at the 13th minute mark.
Anthony Pileggi (FR/London, ON) found the back of the net to tie the game and to close out the 2nd period. Jordan Ribbink (SR/Perth, Ontario) and Jake Lindblom (SR/Pine City, MN) were credited on the assists.
The Cyclones won the game in the 3rd period. The Warriors had a team-high of 18 shots on goal in the period.
Waldorf goaltender Gage Reimer (FR/Medicine Hat, AB) finished with 76 saves.
Heitkamp added, "Gage played great and gave us a shot to win. Once we can fight through our scoring issues, we are a tough team to beat. Jordan Ribbink made a very nice pass to Anthony Pileggi for his first collegiate goal. We knew this was going to be the toughest schedule in program history. We will see the benefits as the season progresses."
The Warriors will return to their home ice for a weekend series against Dakota College at Bottineau starting on Friday, November 3rd. Puck drop is at 7 pm.
