Warriors Battle Against Rams at Home
ALBERT LEA, MN – The Waldorf D1 hockey team returned to play for the second game against the Colorado State Rams on Saturday afternoon. In another overtime battle, the Warriors lost 3-2.
The Rams were first to score late in the first period, this goal was also the only goal scored in the period.
In the second period, the Warriors came out strong by scoring back-to-back goals to take the lead. Luke Nemeth (FR/Ames, IA) scored the first goal, assisted by Geoffrey Dick (JR/Prespatou, BC) and Devin Carney (FR/Wasilla, AK). The second goal was from Morgan Sweeney (SR/Hastings, MN).
With just under 10 minutes left in the third period, the Rams tied the game on a Waldorf power-play to force the game into overtime. The Rams scored to win the game 3-2.
Waldorf goalie Gage Reimer (FR/Medicine Hat, AB) finished the game with 29 saves.
"Two overtime ties this weekend was not what these guys deserved. We battled well for three periods today and got excellent goaltending from Gage Reimer. Especially since this was Gage's first collegiate game," Head Coach Mike Heitkamp stated. "The coaching staff is happy to see things beginning to develop. We have huge weekend coming up in Jamestown next weekend. We are confident this group will be ready."
The Warriors will travel to Jamestown for a weekend series starting on Friday, September 29th.
