Hockey Signs Canadian Defenseman Pileggi for '23-'24 Season
The Waldorf Hockey Team continues to build a contender for the upcoming 2023-24 campaign. Head Coach Mike Heitkamp announced the commitment of Canadian defenseman Anthony Pileggi on Thursday.
"Anthony has been on our radar for the last two years and to say we are excited that he is going to be a Warrior is a huge understatement," Heitkamp said. "Anthony is someone that we worked hard during the recruitment process with since his attributes as a player were equal to that of him as a person. We anticipate he will fill a leadership role pretty quickly. He is going to add some skill and consistency to our defensive group. He skates and sees the ice well and is the perfect combination of skill and grit, which fits perfectly into our program."
Pileggi, a native of London, Ontario, comes to Waldorf following extensive experience in the Canadian junior hockey ranks. Pileggi broke into junior hockey with the French River Rapids of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL). He also played for the Caledon Bombers of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL). Most recently, he appeared in 19 games for the Red Lake Miners of the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL).
"Anthony is going to come in his freshman year and have a major impact to our program," Heitkamp said. "I'm very excited to see him in a Warrior jersey next fall."
The Warriors recently finished a 13-win campaign, the program's most victories as an ACHA Division 1 program. Waldorf will begin its 2023-24 season in September.
