Jacks outpace D1 Hockey, 6-1
ALBERT LEA, MN – The Waldorf University ACHA Div. 1 Men's Hockey Team struggled in its afternoon tilt with Dakota College at Bottineau, falling by a final score of 6-1.
The two teams played to a near standstill for most of the first period. The Lumberjacks (6-2-0) broke the scoreless tie with just 12 seconds remaining in the first period. Dakota College at Bottineau then led the rest of the way.
The Warriors (2-13-2) scored their lone goal of the afternoon at 19:16 of the second period. Senior forward Morgan Sweeney (Hastings, MN) found the back of the net to trim the deficit to 4-1. Sophomore forward Cale Anderson (Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada) assisted on the tally.
Senior netminder Nelson Schiiler (Strathmore, Alberta, Canada) made 40 saves for Waldorf in the losing effort, including 19 in the final period. The Jacks outshot the Warriors, 46-41.
Both teams had four power play opportunities in the contest. Waldorf went 1 for 4, scoring on a two man advantage, while the Jacks went 2 for 4.
The Warriors return to the ice Friday night when they travel to the University of Mary in non-conference action. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
