Volleyball Gets Sweep for Home Opener Against Union College
FOREST CITY, IA – The Waldorf women's volleyball team had their home opener for a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon against Union College (NE). Waldorf swept Union to win 25-11, 25-11, 25-18.
"It's always good to get a win on your home floor and it was great to have a packed Hanson Fieldhouse for our home opener!" stated Head Coach Bri Ebenhoe.
Waldorf took an early lead to start the game by with a kill from Anna Longhenry (SO/Fenton, IA) to be up 9-4. Juliet Karlen (JR/Janesville, WI) went on a 10-point serving run. Waldorf took set one 25-11 with a total of 12 kills.
In the second set, Waldorf got off to a strong start again by capitalizing on Union errors to take a 10-4 lead. Back-to-back kills from Sydney Kidd (FR/Roscoe, IL) and Devyn Scott (SR/Fort Dodge, IA) extended the lead 12-6.
Emily Soukup (FR/Faribault, MN) had three service aces which forced Union to take a timeout. Waldorf won the second set 25-11. Courtney Stutsman had three block assists for set two.
Union College made a comeback late in the third set by getting five kills before Waldorf won 25-18.
Karyssa Watson (JR/Rocanville, SK) had a team-high of nine kills. Kidd finished close behind with eight kills, and Longhenry added four. Rachel Watson (JR/Littleton, CO) had a team-high of 14 assists and Stutsman had nine. Macy Stratton (SO/Luverne, MN) tallied nine digs. Soukup finished with four service aces, and Alisha Schaefer (SR/Mount Calvary, WI) and Watson each added three.
Ebenhoe added, "We were able to work through a couple different lineups and see some strong performances from our Warriors."
The Waldorf volleyball team will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to play Union College on Thursday, September 21st at 6 pm.
