Waldorf Volleyball Earns Five-Set Victory Against Hastings
FOREST CITY, Iowa – October 4, 2025 – The Waldorf University Warriors earned a hard-fought win in conference play Saturday night, defeating Hastings College 3-2 in a thrilling volleyball match at home.
The Warriors came out strong in the first set, narrowly edging Hastings 25-23. However, momentum shifted as Hastings took the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-23, putting Waldorf on the defensive. Facing a must-win fourth set, the Warriors responded with grit and determination, reclaiming control with another tight 25-23 win to even the match at 2-2.
In the decisive fifth set, Waldorf maintained their composure and executed when it mattered most, securing a 15-12 victory to clinch the match.
Several Warriors made a significant impact with their play. Emily Soukup led the offensive charge with 13 kills and 6 blocks, hitting .348. Kaylin Koch added 10 kills, and Anna Longhenry contributed 8 more. On the defensive end, McKenna Marlow anchored the back row with 16 digs. The team's offensive rhythm was fueled by strong setting performances from Reinya Balderson (25 assists) and McKenna Metzger (19 assists). Serving also played a key role, with multiple players recording aces that kept Hastings on their heels.
The win improves Waldorf's overall record to 9-7. The Warriors now turn their attention to their next conference matchup against Midland University, set for October 10 in Fremont, Nebraska, as they look to add another to the win column. JV is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. and Varsity will follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.
