Waldorf Volleyball Battles to the End in Five-Set Fight Against Mount Marty
YANKTON, S.D. — The Waldorf University Volleyball Warriors brought their fighting spirit to Yankton, SD on September 27, 2025, determined to make their mark in a high-stakes conference match against the Mount Marty University Lancers. In a match packed with momentum swings, the Warriors battled relentlessly but ultimately fell just short, with Mount Marty clinching a nail-biting 3-2 victory.
The match started on a positive note for the Warriors as they claimed the first set 25-21. However, the Lancers bounced back in the second and third sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-16, respectively, taking a 2-1 lead. Not one to give up easily, Waldorf fought hard and won the fourth set 25-23, pushing the match into a decisive fifth set. Unfortunately, the Warriors fell short in the final set, losing 15-13.
Throughout the match, several Waldorf players stood out for their performances. Emily Goodner led the team with 13 kills, followed by Peyton Klooster with 6, and Anna Longhenry with 5. Klooster was also a key defensive player, contributing 5 blocks. The digging efforts were led by McKenna Marlow, with 15 digs, and Ashley Kurschner, with 14. Waldorf's service game was strong, spearheaded by Reinya Balderson, who notched 4 aces.
The match saw a memorable moment for Maya Augustine, who made her first match appearance as a Warrior and recorded an ace. Sydney Kidd stood out in the latter stages of the match, showcasing an impressive attacking performance over the final three sets, with 4 kills on 7 attempts, hitting .428.
