Baseball Finishes with Split against Valley City State
FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf baseball team returned to their home field for another doubleheader against Valley City State. The Warriors dropped the first game 12-1 and won the second 6-3.
Davis Churchman (SR/Ankeny, IA) started the first game off with a lead-off homerun, which ended up being the only run scored for the Warriors.
The Vikings went on to score 12 runs on 12 hits in seven innings. The Warriors were limited to just two hits, both by Churchman.
In the second game, the Warriors were first to score in the 2nd inning off a balk and Churchman scored the second run in 3rd inning off a Viking error.
Matthew Ferreira (SR/Spring Creek, NV) hit a three-run homerun and Churchman got his second homerun of the day to give the Warriors a 6-0 lead.
The Vikings gained momentum in the bottom of the 7th with three runs off back-to-back homeruns.
Zach Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) pitched six innings and the first out of the seventh. Meyer finished with nine strikeouts and only two hits.
The Warriors are now 16-21 overall and 11-9 in conference. Next for the baseball team is an away non-conference game against South Dakota State on Wednesday, April 19th at 3 p.m.
