Warriors get DH sweep at Dickinson State
DICKINSON, N.D. - The Waldorf baseball team traveled northwest to North Dakota for an NSAA doubleheader with Dickinson State. The Warriors followed up an extra innings win in the opener with another win in the nightcap to take the first two games of a four-game set.
The first game was a tight battle. With the score tied at 1 in the sixth, Ian Carr gave Waldorf a 2-1 lead with a two-out RBI single to center. Dickinson State tied it up with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Waldorf used patience to regain the lead in the seventh. The Warriors loaded the bases on two walks and a single. With two outs, Tyler Wytulka drew another walk for the go-ahead run. The Blue Hawks again would tie the game in the seventh, sending the game to extra innings. It was all Waldorf in the eighth. Carr led off with a walk. Rylee Rauch followed with a double to left. A steal of home by Carr gave Waldorf a 4-3 lead. Two walks followed to load the bases with two outs. Ryan Webster again came through in the clutch as he delivered a 2-RBI double. Wytulka followed with an RBI single to give Waldorf a 7-3 lead. Reno Morehouse came on in relief in the eighth to preserve the extra-innings win. Ryan Meyer went the first seven innings for Waldorf. He struck out eight Blue Hawks. Robert Gurney had three hits in the opener.
Dickinson State got on the scoreboard first in the second game with a two-run first inning. It stayed that way until the fourth when the Warriors put together another four-run frame. Waldorf scored their first runs on an error. A Peter Ordonio RBI triple gave Waldorf a 3-2 lead. Ian Carr later plated Ordonio for a 4-2 lead. After a shaking first inning, starting pitcher Jamie Olson settled down and kept Dickinson State from the second through sixth innings and would get credit for the win. Trevor Brace pitched the final 2.2 innings to record his first save of the season. Zach Meyer and Kolby Amaral each had two hits for the Warriors.
Waldorf (16-19, 6-8 in NSAA) will complete the four-game set Saturday in Dickinson.
