FAYETTE, Mo. - The Waldorf baseball team had a tough task in their first games back from the spring trip to Arizona. They traveled to Fayette, Mo. for a weekend series at No. 6 Central Methodist. A late rally in the opener came up short as the Warriors dropped all three games in the series.
The Warriors trailed 4-1 going into the seventh inning in the opener Friday. Peter Ordonio started the frame with a single to left. Anthony Hibl pinch ran for Ordonio. Hibl advanced to third on a double from Ryan Webster. Hibl came across to score on an RBI from Ian Carr. A batter later, Rylee Rauch plated Webster on a single to left to cut the score to 4-3. Rauch stole second, but a strikeout ended the rally and the game.
Ryan Meyer had a solid start on the mound for Waldorf allowing six hits and striking out three over six innings.
Central Methodist shutout Waldorf in the nightcap Friday, 7-0. Rauch collected two hits. Saturday, the Eagles scored in every inning they batted in taking a 12-1 win in the series finale. Starting pitcher Gunnar Huffman struck out five in three innings of work.
Waldorf (10-10) is scheduled to kick off NSAA play Friday at Mayville State.
