Waldorf Baseball Drop Senior Day Doubleheader to Briar Cliff
FOREST CITY, Iowa. Waldorf dropped both ends of its senior day doubleheader against Briar Cliff on Sunday in Forest City, falling 10-3 in the opener and 17-11 in the second game.
The Warriors found one of their biggest offensive moments in the first game from Mason Smith, who delivered a pinch-hit appearance with a hit and two RBIs. Dylan Battye added Waldorf's final run of the opener with a solo home run to right-center field, but the Chargers kept control of the game and handed the Warriors the 10-3 loss.
Waldorf also got steady relief work in Game 1 from William Childs. Childs covered 1 1/3 innings without allowing a run and struck out three Briar Cliff hitters, giving the Warriors a clean stretch on the mound in the later innings.
The second game turned into a higher-scoring matchup, with Waldorf producing 11 runs but unable to keep pace in a 17-11 defeat. Jack Kamalski and Battye led the Warriors' offense, and both went deep. Kamalski finished with three hits and three RBIs, while Battye added three hits and four RBIs to cap another strong day at the plate.
AJ Toulouse provided effective relief in the second game, working 1 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out two. Still, Briar Cliff's offense did enough across the afternoon to secure the sweep, despite Waldorf's flashes of production in both games.
Even in the losses, the Warriors received notable senior day contributions from several key bats and relievers. Smith's pinch-hit RBIs, Battye's power in both games, Kamalski's three-hit effort, and scoreless relief appearances from Childs and Toulouse gave Waldorf a handful of bright spots as the team closed the day against the Chargers.
