Warriors Win Big Against Blue Hawks on Senior Day
FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf baseball team was back in action at home for a conference weekend series against Dickinson State. The Warriors won both games and honored their eight seniors, Marc Luna, Gage Miller, AJ Oddo, Luis Rivera, Matthew Ferreira, Damien Sanchez, Davis Churchman, and Thomas Capllonch.
Zach Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) started the game with an RBI double getting Davis Churchman (SR/Ankeny, IA) to score in the 1st inning. Ryan Webster (SO/Las Vegas, NV) got an RBI single in the 3rd inning allowing Thomas Capllonch (SR/Kailua, HI) to cross home plate to add another run.
The Blue Hawks hit a homerun in the top of the 5th inning.
The Warriors extended their lead with a big 7th inning. Juan Jorge (JR/Bronx, NY) and Capllonch scored, and Meyer scored on a sacrifice fly out from Webster to close out the inning. The Warriors won 5-1.
Ryan Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and zero walks to secure the win.
For game two, Zach Meyer opened with a two-run homerun to take an early lead.
The Blue Hawks took the lead in the 2nd inning by scoring on a Warrior error and then a two run RBI single to go up 2-3.
The Warriors retook the lead in the 3rd inning with Capllonch scoring on a passed ball and Atticus Smith (SO/Kent, WA) came up with an RBI single.
In the top of the 4th inning, the Blue Hawks scored their final run off an RBI single.
Anthony Hibl (JR/Sharon, WI) scored the final run off a single from Smith. The Warriors won 6-4.
Marc Luna (SR/Alvin, TX) started on the mound for the Warriors and finished with four strikeouts. Gunnar Huffman (FR/Robinson, TX) got the win with three strikeouts and one walk; Trevor Brace (JR/Murrieata, CA) closed the game with three strikeouts and zero walks.
The Warriors will play another doubleheader against the Blue Hawks tomorrow starting at 12 p.m.
