Waldorf Baseball Drops Double Header in Conclusion of Series vs. Morningside
FOREST CITY, Iowa. Waldorf closed its four-game series with Morningside on Tuesday with a pair of losses, falling 14-5 in the opener and 14-3 in the nightcap in Forest City, Iowa.
The first game turned on Morningside's ability to build separation while Waldorf tried to answer with timely production in the middle of the order. AJ Toulouse drove in three of the Warriors' five runs, while Tyler Tamez accounted for the other two RBIs. Waldorf stayed competitive offensively through those contributions, but the Mustangs' bigger run output kept the Warriors from closing the gap late.
Ben Dornseif provided one of Waldorf's steadier performances of the day in the opener. Dornseif worked six and two-thirds innings and struck out three Morningside hitters, giving the Warriors length on the mound even as the Mustangs pushed across 14 runs. His outing helped stabilize the game over the middle innings, but Waldorf could not generate enough offense to change the result.
In the second game, Waldorf again ran into a high-scoring Morningside lineup and dropped a 14-3 decision. Cameren Rindone led the Warriors at the plate with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, contributing to nearly all of Waldorf's offense in the finale. His all-around day stood out as the Warriors searched for momentum against the Mustangs.
The Warriors used a bullpen approach in the second game, sending five pitchers to the mound. Seamus Ryley turned in the sharpest relief work of that group, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing only two hits. Waldorf pieced together the game with multiple arms, but Morningside's offense again found enough production to pull away.
Tuesday's doubleheader wrapped up the four-game set with the Mustangs and left Waldorf looking to carry forward a few individual bright spots, particularly the run production from Toulouse, Tamez and Rindone, along with Dornseif's length and Ryley's scoreless relief appearance. The Warriors now sit at 9-28 overall, with a 1-15 mark in conference play.
