Waldorf Baseball Suffers Sweep in Orange City Against Northwestern (IA)
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Waldorf dropped both ends of a Friday baseball doubleheader against Northwestern, falling 11-7 in the opener before the Red Raiders completed the sweep with a 15-8 win in the nightcap.
The Warriors stayed productive offensively across the two games, but Northwestern's run production proved decisive. In the first game, Andrew Herrin and Elijah Guemez each drove in two runs, accounting for four of Waldorf's seven runs. The Warriors got a clean outing in relief from Keaton Haines, who worked two-thirds of an inning without allowing a baserunner.
Waldorf again showed power at the plate in the second game, led by Jack Kamalski. Kamalski homered twice and added a triple, finishing with six RBIs in one of the Warriors' top individual offensive performances of the day. Even with that surge, Northwestern answered often enough to pull away for the 15-8 victory.
Axton Beenken provided a bright spot on the mound in the second game. He threw two scoreless innings in relief and struck out three Red Raiders, keeping Northwestern off the board during his stint. Waldorf's bullpen efforts and middle-of-the-order production gave the Warriors several positive moments, but the Red Raiders capitalized consistently over the course of both games.
The doubleheader took place Friday evening in Orange City, and while the results went against Waldorf, the Warriors left with notable individual performances at the plate and on the mound. Herrin, Guemez and Kamalski supplied the offensive highlights, while Haines and Beenken turned in effective relief appearances as Waldorf looks ahead to its next opportunity.
Waldorf will continue their stay in Orange City as they will play another double header with Northwestern on Saturday starting at 1 PM.
