Warriors drop doubleheader to Mayville
PARKVILLE, Mo. - The Waldorf baseball team dropped an NSAA-opening doubleheader to Mayville State Thursday.
Waldorf and Mayville State were scheduled for a 4-game series to be played Friday and Saturday in Mayville, North Dakota. A poor weather forecast moved the series up one day and south to the Kansas City, Missouri suburb of Parkville.
The Comets took the opener 3-1 in seven innings. They jumped out in front early with two runs in the first inning. They added another run in the third to go up 3-0. The score stayed that way until the seventh. Peter Ordonio launched a two-out, pinch-hit home run to get Waldorf on the board. A groundout ended the game. On the mound, Ryan Meyer struck out five in six innings of work.
The second game started like the first with Mayville State putting up a crooked number in their half of the first inning. Waldorf got a run back in the second. Zach Meyer started the frame with a triple to right. Ryan Webster drove him in with a sacrifice fly. The Warriors pulled closer in the fifth. Webster led off with a double to left center. Two batters later, Tyler Wytulka drove him in with an RBI single. Rylee Rauch later drove in Wytulka with an RBI single to cut the Mayville lead to 4-3. The Comets followed with two of their own in the fifth to go up 6-3. They kept on building their lead in gaining a 14-3 win in the second game.
The same two teams meet again for another doubleheader tomorrow in Parkville starting at noon.
