Waldorf Baseball Cannot Salvage Game in Double Header vs. Morningside
FOREST CITY, Iowa. Morningside took both games of Monday's home doubleheader from Waldorf, holding off the Warriors 5-4 in the opener before completing the sweep with a 5-1 win in the second game at Forest City, Iowa.
The first game was the tighter of the two, with Waldorf staying within striking distance throughout before finishing one run short. The Warriors got a strong day at the plate from Cameren Rindone, who paced the offense with three hits and scored a run. Jack Kamalski and Zane Silos-Holmes accounted for Waldorf's two RBIs in the opener, helping keep the game close as the Mustangs built just enough offense to escape with the 5-4 decision.
Waldorf also received a steady start on the mound in Game 1. Brandon Berg worked 6 and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and striking out three Morningside hitters. That outing gave the Warriors a chance deep into the game, but the Mustangs did enough in key spots to secure the win.
The second game ended in another Morningside victory, this time by a 5-1 margin. Waldorf was limited to five hits, though Andrew Herrin collected two of them to lead the Warriors' lineup. The Mustangs again controlled the scoreboard, and Waldorf was unable to string together the offensive push needed to climb back into the game.
There were bright spots on the pitching side in the nightcap. Jackson Heath and Seamus Ryley combined for 2 and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief, allowing only three hits while keeping Morningside from extending its lead. Their work stabilized the game late, but the early deficit remained too much for the Warriors to overcome.
The twin bill dropped Waldorf to an 0-2 day against the Mustangs, but the Warriors still showed pieces to build on, particularly from the Game 1 start on the mound and the late relief work in Game 2. Waldorf's most productive stretches came from the individual efforts noted across both games, even as Morningside finished the afternoon with the sweep.
