Warriors Earn Doubleheader Split at Benedictine
ATCHISON, Kan. - Waldorf Baseball earned a doubleheader split at Benedictine (Kan.) on Sunday, winning game 1 with a final score of 7-6 and finishing game 2 with a 14-4 loss.
In game 1, Waldorf set the tone early with two runs in the top of the first, then answered a back-and-forth start by breaking the game open in the fourth to take a 7–4 lead. Benedictine responded with a two-run fifth to trim the margin to one but was held scoreless over the final two frames, as the Warriors' pitching and defense closed out a tight nonconference victory. The Warriors' offense was led by Cameren Rindone, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI. His two-out double in the pivotal fourth inning punctuated Waldorf's five-run outburst that turned a 4–2 deficit into a 7–4 advantage. Dylan Battye also collected three hits and scored a run, while Randy Martinez added two hits, drove in a run, and scored twice.
Waldorf struck first in the opening inning when Mason Smith singled to left to drive in Martinez for an early edge. Benedictine answered quickly with a home run. The Ravens continued to apply pressure with single runs in the second and third innings, building a 4–2 lead before the Warriors' decisive rally. In the fourth, Waldorf sent nine batters to the plate and capitalized on its opportunities. The Warriors strung together hits and baserunners to push across five runs, highlighted by Rindone's two-out double that extended the inning and widened the margin. By the end of the frame, Waldorf had turned the game in its favor at 7–4. Benedictine fought back in the fifth, however, Waldorf's staff settled in from there, limiting Benedictine to just four walks overall and stranding five runners on base.
Jack Kamalski worked five innings for the Warriors, allowing six runs on nine hits with four strikeouts to earn the win, while the bullpen finished off the final two frames without allowing a run. The defense helped seal it in the seventh, when Martinez hauled in a fly ball to left field for the final out to preserve the 7–6 victory. Waldorf finished with just one error in the field, matching Benedictine, and left seven runners on base but did enough offensively in the middle innings to secure the road decision.
In game 2, Waldorf controlled the early momentum, using a three-run second inning and another tally in the fourth to build a 4-2 advantage. Benedictine answered immediately in the bottom of the fourth, however, sending 13 batters to the plate and turning a two-run deficit into an 11-4 lead that it would not relinquish. The Ravens later added three more runs in the sixth to close out the run-rule decision.
In the second inning, Ryland Humphrey put Waldorf on the board with an RBI single, and Tyler Tamez followed with a two-run double. Waldorf continued to apply pressure in the fourth, loading the bases before Martinez was hit by a pitch to force in a run and extend the lead to 4-2. Benedictine responded with the decisive frame in the bottom half of the fourth as the Ravens scored nine runs then added three more in the bottom of the sixth to finish 14-4.
