Wheaton (Ill.) Snaps Six-Game Baseball Win Streak
TUCSON, AZ – The Waldorf Baseball Team saw an end to its six-game winning streak, falling 6-2 at the hands of Wheaton (Ill.) on Monday at the Kino Complex.
The Warriors (9-5) kept the game close and low scoring for most of the afternoon, with Wheaton (1-5) holding a slim 1-0 lead for most of the game after scoring in the bottom of the third inning of the nine-inning contest.
In the top of the eighth, Waldorf got the leadoff runner aboard via hit by pitch. Junior Tyler Wytulka (Nucla, CO) then singled up the middle, putting runners to first and third. In the next at bat, although there was a strikeout, Waldorf was able to tie the score when Wytulka took second base, inducing an errant throw from catcher, allowing him to take third and bringing in junior Kolby Amaral (Grass Valley, CA) with the tying run. The Warriors then grabbed a 2-1 lead when senior Ryan Miller (Reno, NV) doubled to center field, scoring Wytulka from third.
The Warriors got a solid three-inning start from senior southpaw Skyler Yarborough (The Colony, TX), who threw 55 pitches and allowed only one hit. He was followed by senior hurler Ryuya Kato (Tokyo, Japan), who went 4.1 innings allowing one earned run, striking out three without issuing any walks.
Senior righty Trevor Brace (0-2) took the loss in relief for the Warriors, while Wheaton's Sean Smith (1-0) earned the win in relief.
Both Wytulka and junior infielder Rylee Rauch had two hit games for Waldorf. Miller walked twice to go along with his RBI double.
