Waldorf Baseball Wins Day 2 Against Hastings College
HASTINGS, Neb. - Waldorf Baseball faced off against Hastings College for Day 2 of their weekend series.
In Game 1, Waldorf would start off strong at the top of the first inning with runs by Cameron Rindone, Lucas Romero, and Seth Mifflin. Hastings would answer at the bottom of the second where they would score three runs, tying the game 3-3. Neither team scored until the bottom of the fifth when Hastings would score a run to take the 4-3 lead. Waldorf responded, scoring two runs of their own at the top of the sixth by Dylan Battye and Atticus Smith, regaining a 5-4 lead. Hastings would regain the lead at the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs to make it a 7-5 Hastings lead. Waldorf would respond at the top of the seventh, scoring two runs by Tyler Wytulka and A. Smith, tying the game 7-7. In the eighth inning, Waldorf scored the last run of the game when Romero hit an RBI, allowing Rindone to score. After nine innings, Waldorf won 8-7.
Romero and A. Smith each had a double and an RBI, Rindone had a triple, and Mifflin, Wytulka, McKelvey, Isaiah Martin, and Mason Smith all had an RBI.
Heading into Game 2, Waldorf led the weekend series 2-1. Waldorf would be the first to score in the second inning with a run by Romero, taking the early 1-0 lead. Waldorf would extend their lead with a run by Rindone at the top of the third and runs by Rindone and McKelvey in the top of the fifth, making it a 4-0 lead. Waldorf would hold Hastings scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the Broncos scored two runs, the last of the game. Waldorf took the game 4-2.
Romero had a double and a triple, Martin had two RBIs, and McKelvey and A. Smith had one RBI each.
Waldorf is back on the road on Tuesday, March 18 to play Mount Mercy University for a non-conference matchup in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 1pm.
