Warriors drop road contest to Morningside
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - After finishing the home portion of their schedule Sunday, the Waldorf baseball team embarked on the road Tuesday for the final week of the regular season. The Warriors started strong but couldn't maintain a lead in falling to Morningside Tuesday night.
Waldorf got on the scoreboard early with three first-inning runs. Ryan Webster drew a walk to start a two-out rally. Atticus Smith followed with a single to center. Ryan Miller followed with a single that scored Webster for the game's first run. Smith scored on a wild pitch. A Robert Gurney RBI single plated Miller and gave Waldorf a 3-0 lead. Waldorf added to the lead in the second. They loaded the bases for Webster who drew another walk that allowed Ian Carr to score and give Waldorf a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Morningside used a pair of triples to put five on the scoreboard and take a 5-4 lead on Waldorf. Morningside added a run in the third to take a 6-4 lead. Strong pitching on both sides ruled the final six innings. For Waldorf, Bernardo Cortez, Alex Tallman, Ryan Meyer, and Reno Morehouse held Morningside scoreless the rest of the way and allowed only three hits. The Morningside relievers were equally as good as they kept Waldorf off the scoreboard the final six innings. Luke Mar got the save, not allowing a run or a hit over the final 3.1 innings.
Waldorf (19-23) is scheduled to play at Dakota State Friday and Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
