JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Waldorf D1 hockey team was on the road for their third straight series to start the season Friday and Saturday in North Dakota against Jamestown. The Jimmies would skate away with a series sweep.
Friday night, Jamestown won 4-2. Waldorf got on the scoreboard first. Mackenzie Bolger scored at the 13:57 mark of the first period off assists from Devin Carney and Audun Caple. Just 18 seconds later though Jamestown tied the game then took a 2-1 lead a minute later. After Jamestown took a 3-1 lead, Evan Koivunen pulled Waldorf within a goal with an unassisted tally. The Jimmies added the game's only third period goal and would go on for the 2-goal win. Matthew Loney made 27 saves in net for Waldorf.
Jamestown would win Saturday's tilt 5-1. The teams were held scoreless through the first period. Jamestown broke the scoreless tie with three goals in the second. Gunnar Vignaroli scored for Waldorf in the third period on power play. Caple and JJ Adams assisted on the goal. Vaughn Holbeche faced a lot of shots, making 43 saves in net for Waldorf.
Waldorf (2-4) hosts Midland in their home opener Friday and Saturday in Albert Lea, Minn.
