Waldorf University D1 Hockey Comes Up Short Against University of Mary
MASON CITY, Iowa. Waldorf University D1 Hockey faced a tough battle against the University Mary on Saturday, October 18. The contest finished in a 7-3 final in favor of the University of Mary.
The Warriors trailed early as the Marauders scored on the first shift of the game. Not only did UMary get the goal, but the play resulted in starting goalie Vaughn Holbeche leaving the game due a head shot resulting from the play. Matt Loney stepped in for Holbeche 1:34 into the game.
The Warriors would head into the second down 3-0, but the teams would rotate scoring goals in the second. Jaden Aguilera was able to score his first collegiate goal on the power play with assists from Liam Wallace and Peyton Inks. Cole Dermott would also score his first collegiate goal on a hard fought battle in from the UMarys net. Gunner Vignaroli would add an assist. Sam Ingram decided to join his fellow freshman scoring his first collegiate goal after burying the puck to end a nice play by Dom Towes. The second period ended 6-3.
The third was a back forth period until UMary scored late in the third making it a 7-3 final. Waldorf held a minor advantage on shots overall 33-32. The two teams wrap up the series tomorrow in Mason City. Puck drop is 1:30.
