ALBERT LEA, Minn. - The Waldorf D2 hockey team came back from a 3-0 deficit to top Augustana 5-3 Sunday afternoon to earn a split in the weekend home series.
Sunday, Augustana got all of their goals in the first period to take a 3-0 lead. Waldorf's comeback started early in the second period. Zach Jimenez scored just 3:49 into the period to get Waldorf on the board. Jaxen Park scored less than two minutes later off assists from Stephen Mosgopoulos and Jimenez. The score remained 3-2 Augustana going into the third period. Zack Lloyd got the equalizing goal 11:12 into the third off feeds from Mosgopoulos and John Vickroy. Less than two minutes, Blake Raddatz delivered the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal off a feed from Vincent Hunt. Raddatz added an insurance tally with 1:08 remaining to give Waldorf the 5-3 win. Carter Herheim had a great game in net for Waldorf with 54 saves.
The win came less than 24 hours after a tough 4-3 defeat to Augustana Saturday night. Waldorf led 3-2 going into the third period. Augustana tied the game with 7:30 remaining. Then in the final minute, they got the go-ahead goal. Waldorf put on a fierce force to tie the game in the waning seconds, but Augustana held on for the win.
Waldorf (2-4) next hosts Northern Michigan October 25-26.
