Warriors Push No. 15 Marauders, Come up Short

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Warriors put together a solid effort on Saturday afternoon. Waldorf University tied the match in each of the opening two periods, but No. 15 University of Mary scored four of the ensuing five goals and took away a 7-4 men's hockey decision.

Evan Koivunen tied the match, 1-1, only 4:49 into the day. Audun Caple made it a second deadlock for Waldorf at 2-2 on a power-play score only 1:33 into the second period. The Marauders responded by showing their mettle with the go ahead score just over three minutes later and added three of the game's next four scores for a 6-3 lead with 4:13 left in the match. Caple found Geoffrey Dick less than a minute later for a 6-4 match but the home team could get no closer.

Unlike Friday's meeting, Waldorf (4-12) found the next in each period of Saturday play.

Caple and Dick led the Warrior offense with a goal and an assist. Koivunen and Spencer Clark accounted for the other two goals.

Devin Carney, Liam Wallace and Gunnar Vignaroli assisted on one Waldorf score apiece.

In the net, Matthew Loney stopped 16 Mary shots.

Waldorf will have over a month off from competition until it travels for a weekend series at Drury University on Jan. 10-11, Friday and Saturday.
