Waldorf University D2 Hockey Face Tough Loss in Overtime Against Creighton
OMAHA, Nebraska. In a closely contested D2 Hockey game, the Waldorf University Warriors experienced a challenging match against Creighton, culminating in a thrilling but ultimately disappointing overtime loss, 7-6, on October 18, 2025, in Omaha, NE.
The game kickstarted with intense action, with the Warriors initially seizing the lead by the end of the first period with a score of 3-2. Waldorf's goals were energetically netted by Edlund, Sundgren, and Loyd, countering Creighton's early strikes from Lukey and Pellegrini.
Despite the pressure, the second period ended with Waldorf barely maintaining their lead by 4-3, thanks to a key goal from Mesgopoulas. Creighton managed to keep pace with a solitary goal by Kipp. As tensions rose, both teams entered the third period with the determination to clinch the win. This period saw Creighton's Lorenzo, Neuton, and Lukey scoring three goals, changing the dynamics of the game. However, Waldorf's Boyd and Romani were quick to respond, leveling the score and pushing the match into overtime.
In a heart-stopping overtime period, Creighton's Kipp, who had been a significant player throughout the game, scored the game-winning goal. This was despite the staunch defending and impressive saves by Waldorf's goalie, Carter Herhein.
